United Cerebral Palsy for Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, CA
Frequently Asked Questions

Parents and other care givers are often reluctant to ask some of the more difficult questions once they hear the diagnosis, "your child has cerebral palsy".  While there are as many reasons why as there are parents, there is a forum on our web site where you can have open and frank talks with other parents of children with disabilities.  Some of the topics you might hear are:

"Can my child's cerebral palsy be fixed out cured? "

"Can I or anyone else catch cerebral palsy? "

"Ever since we learned that our baby has cerebral palsy, my  husband/wife  has been numb, angry, sad, shocked, confused,  withdrawn, frantically busy,... whats happening? "

"How do I handle it when people say things like, "whats wrong with  your baby?" or "you're so special", or "it could be worse", or "God  wouldn't give you something you couldn't handle."  They mean well, I  guess, but they just don't understand. "

"How do I get help to pay for my baby's therapy and equipment?"

Have you or someone you know voiced these or similar questions?  Please drop into our chat forum, email us or call us at the number listed on our home page.  You are not alone.  Someone will contact you in the near future.  Above all, we at UCPASC/SM Counties want to be of help, to assist your baby and your family gets on with the business of living with a disability.
