High School/High Tech
Our High School/High Tech Program had its official Kick-Off
at NASA/Ames with Congresswoman Anna Eschoo as the guest speaker. This
is an exciting program where students who are interested in careers in
the high tech field are partnered with corporation and businesses in a
variety of activities. Some of the students this year had internships,
at NASA/Ames and at Nortel, we all went on tours of Adobe, Xilinx, and
Tencor Instruments.
Digital Clubhouse
One very exciting project happened at the Digital Clubhouse.
Here the students learned to use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop,
and Adobe Premier software to create a Digital Story, a computer animated
movie about them. The experience not only gave them the experience and
training to use the most up-to-minute software, it also gave the students
an opportunity to express themselves, to hear their own story and create
a visual representation of their lives. Some used it instead of a written
resume!
This coming year in the High School/High Tech program, we are looking to expand the opportunities so that students who may have desire for a career in non-traditional technical fields, such as fashion design, or computer animation, or even forensics, will have the opportunity to find an internship. The idea is to expose as many teens with disabilities to as many technical professions as possible.
If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in just email the High School/High Tech coordinator below and we will get back to you.
